FAQ: Data Center UPS Solutions
Last updated 2026-08-25
Data centers demand the highest levels of power reliability. This FAQ covers High Idea Power’s E Series, ET Series, and ETPRO Series rack-mount UPS solutions — from small server rooms to enterprise-scale three-phase deployments with N+1 redundancy.
1. What UPS topology is best for data centers?
Online double-conversion is the industry standard. Unlike standby UPS, online units continuously convert AC to DC and back to clean AC, providing zero transfer time and complete isolation from grid disturbances.
| Series | Capacity | Form Factor | Battery |
|---|---|---|---|
| ET1K | 1000VA/800W | Tower | Built-in LiFePO4 36V 15AH |
| ET3K | 3000VA/2400W | Tower | Built-in LiFePO4 48V 30AH |
| E1KS-48 | 1000VA/800W | 1U Rackmount | External 48V battery |
| E2KS-48 | 2000VA/1600W | 1U Rackmount | External 48V battery |
| E3KS-48 | 3000VA/2400W | 1U Rackmount | External 48V battery |
| ETPRO 30-60KS | 30–60KVA | Rackmount | External LiFePO4 |
2. What is N+1 redundancy and how do I configure it?
N+1 redundancy installs one more UPS module than the minimum required. If any single module fails, remaining modules continue without interruption. The ETPRO 30–60KS supports parallel operation of up to 3 units. A 30KW load would use 2 × ETPRO 40KS in parallel — each capable of 40KVA, only 30KW needed. Parallel connection requires communication cable and current-sharing cable between units.
3. How efficient are High Idea Power data center UPS systems?
E and ET Series achieve >90% efficiency in double-conversion mode. ETPRO supports ECO mode up to 98% efficiency by bypassing the double-conversion circuit when input quality is good. The inverter stays synchronized and ready to switch back within milliseconds. Note: ECO mode is not supported in parallel configurations.
4. What cooling and ventilation do rackmount UPS units require?
- Maintain at least 100mm clearance at front and rear for airflow.
- Ambient temperature: 0–40°C. For every 10°C above 25°C, battery life decreases ~50%.
- Humidity: 0–90% non-condensing.
- ETPRO uses forced-air cooling with temperature-controlled fans.
5. Tower vs. rackmount — which for my data center?
For data centers with standard 42U racks, the 1U E Series (E1KS-48, E2KS-48, E3KS-48) maximizes equipment density. For larger facilities, ETPRO 30–60KS provides three-phase 400V output at industrial scale. Tower models (ET1K, ET3K) suit small server rooms with floor/shelf placement.
6. What battery configuration gives longest runtime?
| Battery Pack | Capacity | Runtime (E3KS-48 at 2000W) |
|---|---|---|
| LD4810 | 48V 10AH | ~12 minutes |
| LD4820 | 48V 20AH | ~25 minutes |
| LD4830 | 48V 30AH | ~38 minutes |
| LD4850 | 48V 50AH | ~60 minutes |
7. Can I monitor data center UPS status remotely?
Yes. All E and ETPRO units include RS-232 and USB ports plus an intelligent card slot for SNMP/network cards. Features: real-time web monitoring, email/SMS alerts, scheduled self-tests, remote shutdown, and NMS integration. ETPRO adds dry contacts for BMS and EPO circuits.
