Special-Purpose UPS

A special-purpose UPS is specially engineered for one operating scenario and built to serve that scenario alone. This sub-category of UPS Power Supply holds one dedicated series per scenario as they are released.

Special-Purpose UPS is one of the seven sub-categories under UPS Power Supply. It holds UPS power supplies specially designed and manufactured for one specific operating scenario and built to serve that scenario alone, rather than general-purpose units sized only in VA for IT racks. Each scenario gets its own dedicated series; the first is the EPS-D rolling door / shutter motor UPS, for roller shutters, garage doors, high-speed doors and industrial gates.

One scenario, one purpose-built series

A rolling shutter is an awkward scenario. The door sits idle for most of the day, then asks for a large burst of current to start a motor, several times, in a dusty or damp plant room where nobody checks the equipment. A conventional offline UPS sized by VA often trips on inrush; a conventional online UPS is expensive overkill. The EPS-D series is specially built around that duty instead: strong motor-starting capacity, cold start, surge and lightning protection, and automatic shutdown above 120% load.

Every other special scenario follows the same rule. Define the scenario first — the machine, its starting behaviour, mains quality, duty cycle, ambient conditions and how often anyone is there to service it — then engineer the inverter topology, battery, enclosure, protection and controls around it. One scenario, one purpose-built series; a unit designed for rolling doors is not simply relabelled for a different application. New scenario-specific series are added to this sub-category as they are developed. If your scenario is not listed yet, send us its specification and our engineers will confirm whether an existing platform can be adapted or a dedicated series is warranted.

Choosing within the EPS-D family

Start from the motor, not from the door width. Confirm the motor's rated power, starting current, supply phase, and the number of full open/close cycles the site needs during an outage. The factory catalogue also maps the family to door weight classes from 0.6 T to 3 T, which is a useful first filter but is not a substitute for the motor nameplate.

The catalogue lists two output-power rows for each model. We read the first as continuous rated output and the second as short-term motor-starting output; size the unit against the starting figure with margin, and never plan a continuous load at the peak rating. Where the door group runs on a three-phase supply, use the 30D/50D cabinets rather than paralleling single-phase units.

For IT loads, servers and network racks, use the Online UPS 1-10kVA or Lithium Battery UPS sub-categories instead. For transformer-isolated industrial systems up to 600kVA, see Industrial UPS. The full UPS Power Supply category lists every sub-category.

Special-Purpose UPS — frequently asked questions

What is a special-purpose UPS power supply?
A UPS specially designed and manufactured for one specific operating scenario, built to serve that scenario alone, rather than a general-purpose unit sized only in VA. The load behaviour, supply conditions, duty cycle, installation pattern and environment of that scenario determine the inverter topology, battery, enclosure, protection and controls. A different scenario calls for a different dedicated series.
Where does this sub-category sit in the catalogue?
Special-Purpose UPS is one of the seven sub-categories under [UPS Power Supply](/products/ups/). The standard sub-categories are organised by topology and capacity; this one is organised by operating scenario, with one purpose-built series per scenario.
Which dedicated series are available?
The EPS-D rolling door / shutter motor UPS is the first series, covering roller shutters, garage doors, high-speed doors and industrial gates. Further scenario-specific series are added here as they are developed. If your application is not listed yet, send us the load profile and operating conditions and our engineers will confirm what can be built.
Which loads can the EPS-D rolling door EPS drive?
Roller shutters and garage doors, tubular and translation-door motors, high-speed and fast doors, retractable and expansion gates, industrial sliding gates and flap-gate motors. Tell us the motor nameplate power, starting current and the number of open/close cycles required during an outage and we will size the unit.
Do I need a single-phase or a three-phase EPS-D model?
EPS 6D, 7D, 12D and 20D run on 160-270 Vac single-phase input with 220 Vac output. EPS 30D and 50D take 330-415 Vac three-phase input with 380 Vac output. Match the model to the site supply and the door motor; the voltage is a factory build, not a field setting.
Can you develop a dedicated UPS for our equipment?
Yes. Most OEM/ODM projects start from a modified standard platform. Capacity, output voltage, battery chemistry, enclosure, communication protocols and private-label branding are configured per order; MOQ and lead time are confirmed at quotation.
