FAQ: Lithium Battery UPS Installation Safety & Wiring
Last updated 2026-08-25
Installing a high-voltage lithium battery UPS requires disciplined DC safety, correct cable and breaker selection, proper grounding, and careful polarity. This FAQ covers 192 VDC handling, conductor sizing, grounding, reverse-polarity protection, ET6KRS/ET10KRS wiring, and LD48 series/parallel safety.
1. Why is 192 VDC safety critical?
The ET6KRS (6000 VA / 4800 W) and ET10KRS (10000 VA / 8000 W) run on an external 192 VDC battery string — well above the safe touch limit and capable of a dangerous arc if shorted. Do all battery work with the UPS fully isolated, tools insulated, and metal jewelry removed. Never open or short a live 192 VDC chain on a High Idea Power lithium UPS.
2. Cable size and breaker selection for the DC path?
Size DC conductors for the full battery current at lowest operating voltage, then add margin for temperature and bundling. Select a DC-rated breaker/fuse per string, sized above maximum charge/discharge current but below the conductor rating. The ET rack units have a circuit breaker at the DC input — do not bypass or up-rate it.
3. Grounding requirements?
Ground the UPS chassis and battery cabinet to the facility protective-earth bar with a dedicated conductor before energizing. AC input/output must follow local code with a properly earthed socket or distribution circuit. A solid earth reference also lets the unit’s surge and leakage protection operate correctly.
4. Preventing reverse polarity?
Observe the marked positive/negative DC terminals on the ET units and matching LD48 pack polarity before closing the breaker. Connect the battery side first with the breaker open, verify polarity with a meter, then close. A reversed 192 VDC connection can damage input components, so confirm polarity manually rather than relying on protection.
5. Wiring the ET6KRS / ET10KRS?
These rack units expose AC input, AC output, and DC input terminals at the rear, with a breaker protecting the DC feed and a communication area holding RS232, the parallel port, and the intelligent card slot. Use load-rated conductors, connect the external lithium battery to the marked DC terminals, and route the communication cable away from power wiring to avoid noise.
6. LD48 series/parallel wiring safety?
The LD48 packs (LD4810/4820/4830/4850, LD48-50PRO) are 48 V LiFePO4 with BMS protection against over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, and short circuit. The LD48-50PRO supports parallel connection for capacity expansion. When paralleling, use packs of the same capacity and SOC, connect with matched low-resistance cables, and balance before joining. Never mix packs of different capacity/age, and never series-connect individual cells inside a pack — the BMS manages the internal 16-cell chain.
