FAQ: Marine & Port UPS Solutions
Last updated 2026-08-25
Marine and port environments — shore-to-ship power, RTG cranes, GMDSS communications, terminal automation, and remote navigation aids — demand UPS solutions with salt-spray resistance, classification society certification, and flexible 50/60Hz voltage adaptation. This FAQ covers High Idea Power’s GD, GX, HT, and ET series for maritime applications.
1. Shore-to-ship power?
Vessels operate 50Hz or 60Hz at various voltages. GD Series industrial-frequency UPS: GD6K (6kVA), GD10K (10kVA), GD30KS (30kVA) — output configurable 100/110/120/127VAC, 50/60Hz. Built-in output isolation transformer for galvanic isolation — prevents shore-side ground faults propagating to vessel. 0ms transfer, <3% THD.
2. RTG and gantry crane control?
Outdoor RTG electrical cabins: HT Series (5–20 kVA) — –25°C to +60°C, built-in SPD, salt-air tolerant. Large stacking cranes: ET Series (10–40 kVA) — 3-phase 380/400/415VAC, N+X, 0.99 PF minimizes generator sizing. Operator cabin HMI: N Series (1–10 kVA) — compact, 0ms transfer. UPS bridges 5–15 sec generator start-up gap. HT wide input frequency ±5% handles generator fluctuations.
3. GMDSS and marine communications?
GMDSS requires 100% power for VHF/MF/HF radios, NAVTEX, Inmarsat, EPIRB. GX Series 110VDC UPS: GX6K-110 (6kVA), GX10K-110 (10kVA) — 80–137VAC input, 110VAC output, 50/60Hz ±5%, 96VDC battery. GD Series: configurable 100/110/120/127VAC, SPWM pure sine wave, 3:1 crest factor. C Series (1–3 kVA): individual ECDIS/radar stations. Built-in isolation transformers — critical for hull grounding and galvanic corrosion protection.
4. IP protection and environmental hardening?
Conformal coating on PCBs (factory option). Powder-coated galvanized steel on HT/HTT/GD series. Operating humidity 20–95% non-condensing. HT Series –25°C to +60°C. HTT reinforced chassis + shock-mounted assemblies. Standard IP20 indoor; IP42/IP54 outdoor enclosures on request with stainless hardware, gasketed seals, pressure-equalization vents.
5. Classification society certifications?
DNV: type approval for GD/HTT marine electrical. BV: environmental testing (vibration, inclination, humidity, EMC). CCS: mandatory for Chinese-flagged vessels. IACS unified requirements. Certification covers power section; battery cabinets may require separate approval. Certified units: 4–8 weeks longer lead time.
6. Port TOS and automation?
Central TOS server room: ET 10–40K 3-phase N+1 with SNMP. Distributed gate automation: C Series (1–10 kVA) 2U rack, 120–275VAC wide input. Field cabinets: LD Series 48VDC for PoE switches, IP cameras, access control. Cloud monitoring card: centralized visibility of all distributed nodes — critical for unmanned gate and yard installations.
7. Remote lighthouse and beacon hybrid power?
Solar MPPT charge controller → LD Series 48V/10–50Ah LiFePO₄ → C/N Series Inverter → 220VAC for AIS/radar/monitoring. Cloud card with 4G cellular backhaul to shore operations center. LD4850-PRO with integrated 5A charger. Typical 50–150W beacon load: 48V/50Ah provides 16–48 hours autonomy without solar. Lithium Battery UPS 8–10 year design life, maintenance-free.
8. Special voltages — 440V/690V marine?
Step-down dry-type transformer → 380/400/415V → ET Series (207–476VAC input range). HTT Series: factory-configurable for higher input, built-in isolation transformer provides voltage adaptation. GD/GX: single-phase 100–127V from 440V 3-phase (L-N≈254V) requires upstream step-down. Consult High Idea Power engineering — transformer kVA, impedance, vector group must match UPS and load.
