The RP Series 2U DC-DC converter is built for communication and power systems that already run on a DC bus but need a second voltage. It converts between 24 / 48 / 110 / 220VDC — for example turning a 110 or 220VDC station battery into a 48VDC telecom rail — without an AC intermediate stage.

Design notes

Dual-transistor forward switching with isolation between modules keeps a fault inside a single module. In N+1 configurations the remaining modules continue to supply the load and share current automatically. The wide input window tolerates the voltage swings of station battery buses, and full rated output is maintained from -10 to +50 deg C. The 19-inch 2U chassis suits standard telecom and power cabinets, and a 3½-digit meter option shows output voltage and current locally.

Configuration

Specify the source DC bus and its fluctuation range, the required output voltage and current, the isolation requirement, the number of modules for N+1 redundancy and the available cabinet height. Common builds are DC110-48V30A-2U and DC220-48V30A-2U. Where the source is AC mains, use the RP 2U AC-DC instead.

Key Features

  • Converts between 24 / 48 / 110 / 220VDC station buses without an AC stage
  • Dual-transistor forward switching topology with isolation between modules
  • N+1 parallel redundancy with automatic current sharing
  • Wide DC input tolerance for fluctuating station battery buses
  • Standard 19-inch 2U chassis
  • Full rated output from -10 to +50 deg C
  • Optional 3½-digit meter showing output voltage and current

Applications

Station DC panels

Feed 48VDC communication equipment from a 110 / 220VDC station battery.

Telecom DC plants

Derive an auxiliary 24 or 48VDC rail from an existing DC bus.

Industrial control

Isolated DC rails where DC insulation monitoring is in service.

FAQ

Why not just use a rectifier?
A rectifier needs an AC input. When the source is already a station or telecom DC battery bus, a DC-DC converter changes the voltage directly, with fewer conversion stages and galvanic isolation between the two buses.
Are input and output isolated?
Yes. The dual-transistor forward topology and inter-module isolation keep the DC buses separate, preventing fault propagation and DC insulation alarms.
Can modules be paralleled?
Yes. N+1 parallel operation with automatic current sharing keeps the load supplied if one module fails.
